For the man who is supposed to come to the White House and make the trains run on time, the highly decorated and by the book, General John Kelly, White House Chief of Staff has left a few boxcars on the wrong sidings. So far the General has done a good job following orders. He quickly got rid of the wacko leader of the West Wing Steve Bannon and his fire breathing troglodytes. The ‘anyone can walk into the oval office’ policy that preceded Kelly as well as the flow of information to the president appears to be under control. Kelly also appears to have gotten the President’s daughter, Ivanka, and her all talk, no action husband Jared under some new family rules.
But Kelley either ignored (or unlikely forgot) a brewing crisis that had been in the works for over a year before Kelly went to White House. The White House Staff Secretary is an extremely important position. When I was on the White House Staff nobody got anything to the President without going through his staff Secretary. The the most sensitive information the government produces goes through that office. Rob Porter holds, or held, or holds (what news cycle is it anyhow?). Porter, as most high-level White House personnel do, went through an extensive FBI investigation before he took the job. The White House was told by the FBI as far back as March that Porter should only be granted a limited security clearance after reports from his hometown sheriff’s office that Porter had been questioned about domestic violence in his first marriage. In fact FBI director Christopher Wray told the White House on at least three occasions about his concern with Porters security check.
In 2005, Porter married to Colbie Holderness. Apparently during a vacation Porter kicked his wife in the eyes and she took pictures which have recently been exposed. Porter remarried Jennifer Willoughby in 2009. In June 2010 Ms. Willoughby filed a protective order against Mr. Porter and in another Virginia county court a woman dating Porter asked both former wives for advice on how to leave him because he was so abusive. Porter was named White House staff secretary on January 20 2018 and reportedly told Don McCann the White House Counsel that he was concerned his former wives had a potentially damaging information. Porter got the job anyway. In March the the FBI had uncovered further information on the Porter investigation. Mr. McCann confronted Porter that his security clearance has not gone through and yet he stayed on his job. When asked WH Press Secretary Sanders said she was not aware that anyone in the security Office at the White House had informed anyone of Mr. porters problems.
Now we come to a typical White House response. The White House sent their team out to the various TV shows On one Kellyanne Conway who seems to get the shittiest cleanup jobs has made my Star of the Week Award,(that person that has made the most considerable contribution to politics for the week). She won the award for showing us all how tone death the Trump White House really is. Her comment was that Porter”s current girlfriend was one Hope Hicks, probably President Trump’s closest aides. Conway had the gall to say that she didn’t worry about Ms. Hicks because she was tough and she could handle a guy like Porter. She said in effect the best defense against domestic abuse is to be tough. It would be hard to imagine a dumber line. Does that mean that women need to take boxing lessons or karate before they begin the date a jerk like Porter. Take another look Mr. President at the pictures of for his first wife and say the same thing. Of course when there was an enormous amount of pushback including calls for a congressional investigation of the Porter appointment, Trump’s next move was to immediately ask Congress to come up with clear laws against domestic violence.
Trump’s reaction was even more disgraceful; first he did not speak out about the issue until a full week after Porter had left the White House. Then he proceeded to say he was against domestic violence. Please Mr. Pres. Who isn’t? Trump went on to say however that Porter proclaims his innocence. Trump ‘I think you have to remember that”. Trump also failed to mention the names of Porter’s former wives. The penalty isn’t the issue, you are the issue and you have already failed at your job. The penalty for that punk Porter should be castration. In your case Mr. President the penalty should be impeachment. Both extreme yet both needed.
